Our Story
Luna Hut began with Mike and Laura, a dynamic duo united by a love of saunas and a drive to create something meaningful.
This is a story born out of a complimentary skill-set, shared vision and a commitment to build something for the community.
The Founders
Mike Lord
The dreamer and visionary. With a background in music production and touring as a technician for bands like The Cure. He thrives on high-stakes environments and brings bold ideas backed by careful planning.
Laura Brown
The pragmatic counterpart, the “How do we make it happen?” side of the partnership. With experience in TV production, she knows how to break big ideas into actionable steps.

Already experienced in launching ventures, they brought insights from their Brighton-based yoga studio, Luna Wave, and wild spa, Luna Wilds, to their sauna journey.

The first sauna experiment took place at Luna Wilds, their Sussex wild spa.
A wood-fired sauna purchased via Facebook Marketplace from a Russian seller became the starting point. Ramshackle but fully functional, it quickly became a community favourite.
Guests loved the sauna experience, complete with outside showers and roll top bathtub for the cold plunge, sparking the idea for something bigger.

A trip to the Irish coast provided inspiration: a simple, beachside sauna.
Mike & Laura realised they didn’t need frills - just a well-built sauna in a natural setting.
Over dinner, they decided to bring the concept to Sea Lanes, next to their yoga studio, and began exploring Finnish sauna designs with professional builders.

Design and build began in earnest. Mike collaborated with carpenter Patrick Ayton to create the first Luna Hut, opening on December 23 - a Christmas miracle.
It stayed open through winter 2023–2024, performing so well that Mike & Laura committed to exploring more beach sites across Sussex.

The second beach site opened 8th August as Luna Hut’s first year-round sauna.
After hotel negotiations fell through, they applied directly to the council, securing the location themselves.

Warmly welcomed back our hut is placed yet again on the shores at Sea Lanes.
Plans to convert this hut to electric rather than wood-fired started to emerge, to support a year-round operation and long-term license.

A private, enclosed space allowed for creative freedom reminiscent of Luna Wilds: chiller tubs, dressed spaces, and bucket showers.
This site provided a grown-up, elevated version of the original wild spa experience.
Worthing opened it’s doors to the public on 7th December.
Our 2nd hut opens with a private space to play.

Spotting The Brazen Arms pub for lease felt like fate - it was previously a favourite local spot and shared the same landlord as Sea Lanes.
Inspired by community sauna baths in Hackney Wick, the idea of a sauna café took shape.
The build commenced in September 2024
Upstairs offices completed the setup, giving the growing team room to thrive.

Upgrading to electric allowed Sea Lanes to operate year-round, marking a major milestone for Luna Hut.
Sea Lanes opened with it’s first electric sauna in April 2025.
Our first electric stove goes into our Brighton Hut.

On 5th May we opened our doors to Brighton’s first Sauna Café.
The café had a slow start due to a heatwave, but over time it grew into one of Luna Hut’s busiest sites, becoming a true hub for community and connection.

In June 2025, after months of anticipation, year-round planning permission was granted, securing the long-term future of the Sea Lanes site.
Our Brighton hut receives the thumb up plus upgrades.

In October 2025 our 5th new site officially opens, expanding Luna Hut’s reach along the coast.
Sauna number 5 takes up residence in Bognor.

Eastbourne gets a approval for a major upgrade: a bigger sauna, on-site changing rooms, improved facilities, and a dedicated staff hut, and 10 years planning permissions.
For something bigger and better for Eastbourne.

Our Eastbourne hut will be relocated and upgraded to a new home on Hastings seafront, set to open in Winter 2026 with an enhanced experience.
