Löyly - Steam saunas

Löyly is a Finnish word that refers to the steam that is generated when water is poured over heated rocks in a sauna. It is an important part of the experience, creating a warm and humid atmosphere that promotes relaxation and opens up the pore of the skin.

Although the origins are not entirely clear it is believed to have been part of Finnish culture for thousands of years with ideas rooted in Finnish mythology. The practice of pouring water over hot rocks may have originated as a way to purify the body and spirit - a way to awaken the spirit.

Connection to nature

Finnish saunas are typically situated near large bodies of water, like lakes or the sea. This setting isn’t just practical for a refreshing dip between sauna sessions; it also immerses users in nature, enhancing their connection to the earth.

There is nothing more empowering than standing outside in the rain or snow in your swimwear after heating up in the sauna, fully experiencing the natural world around you.

A sustainable business strategy

We see sustainability as one of our core business strategies and regularly support climate projects through donations to our partners Ecologi.

Communal experience

Social prescribing, which connects people to local activities, is increasingly important in healthcare. Saunas are “challenging UK pubs as the place to meet” as quoted by The Guardian, due to the communal experience they offer. Sharing a sauna session is great for bringing people together, sparking conversations, or sharing laughs with old friends.
